An independent Maltese foundation for art and education.

The foundation began as an informal circle of educators, visual artists and cultural workers who met to address a recurring problem: creative education in Malta was concentrated in a small number of institutions, while entire communities had no reliable access to studios, materials or qualified tutors. What started as borrowed classroom space and donated supplies grew into a structured programme of workshops, exhibitions and mentorship.

As demand grew beyond what volunteers could sustain informally, the founders chose to establish a formal legal body. The organization was constituted as a voluntary organization under Maltese law, adopting a written statute, appointing an executive board and enrolling with the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations under registration number VO/0999. That decision gave our work continuity, public accountability and the standing to enter partnerships with schools, local councils and cultural institutions.

The cicada in our name is deliberate. It spends years unseen before emerging to fill the summer with sound — an image of the patient, largely invisible work that precedes any cultural flourishing. The open book and brush beneath it describe the two disciplines we hold together: learning and making.
